Whereas the current City of Kingston Transit policy prohibits pets on buses with the exception of service animals; and Whereas allowing pets on buses would help enable Kingston residents to attend veterinary appointments; and Whereas the cities of Hamilton, Brampton, Ottawa, Peterborough, Region of Administrative Policies Committee Minutes Meeting 03-2020 held Tuesday March 10, 2020 Page 4 of 4 Durham, Guelph, St. Catharines and Sudbury allow pets on buses as long as they are in pet carriers; and Whereas certain cities have gone further, allowing pets on a leash during offpeak transit hours such as in the City of Toronto, York Region, Mississauga, the Region of Durham, and the GO Transit. Therefore Be It Resolved That the current City of Kingston Transit policy be amended to allow the transportation of pets in carriers considering the following points: • pets must be transported in small carriers designed specifically for the transport of animals • the pet carrier must be kept with the passenger at all times and must not occupy a seat • pets being transported must not disrupt the enjoyment of the transit service by other passengers; and That the policy be amended to allow implementation by March 31, 2020.
